For those struggling with depression, Diamond Lake Clinic St Paul now offers exomind, a non-invasive treatment to battle the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). TMS activates the areas of the brain that are key to regulating emotions, cognitive functions, and self-control to store healthy brain activity, enhancing neural connectivity for the improvement of well-being.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS, is FDA cleared since 2008, backed by over 40 years of clinical use and millions of treatments performed. TMS technology uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the key areas of the brain through enhancing neuronal activity.

In a recent IRB clinical trial, 83% of patients with a depression diagnosis reported feeling less depressed 3 months after the last treatment. 88% of all patients showed improved mental wellbeing scores after the treatments at 3 months. Additionally, 91% of patients found the treatments comfortable. On a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 indicating no pain and 10 for worst possible pain, on average, patients rated the pain experienced during Exomind treatments as a 0.2.

Other benefits of Exomind™ TMS is that it is a non-surgical, non-invasive therapy with short treatment sessions lasting just 20–40 minutes, designed to support long-term mental wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS TMS THERAPY?

TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. It is used to treat depression by stimulating the brain non-invasively using electromagnetic fields, similar to those produced by an MRI machine. During TMS Therapy, a magnetic field is administered in very short pulses to the part of the brain that research has demonstrated to be associated with depression.

The Exomind TMS system uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate the area of the brain that is thought to function abnormally in patients with depression. The magnetic field produces an electric current in the brain that stimulates the brain cells (neurons). This results in changes that are thought to be beneficial in the treatment of depression.

Exomind is offered in two different lengths: Daily from Monday-Friday for approximate 7 weeks or the same number of pulses delivered in 6 sessions.

A standard 36-session Exomind™ TMS treatment course may be covered by insurance, depending on your plan. We encourage patients to verify coverage with their insurance provider prior to starting treatment. The 6-session accelerated protocol, which delivers the same number of pulses, is not currently covered by insurance and is offered as an out-of-pocket option.
