Depression is a common but serious mood disorder.

Symptoms of depression are varied and can range from person to person. Depending on the severity of the case within the individual, this can lead to more severe symptoms. Symptoms of Depression Disorder are as follows:

• Feelings of sadness, emptiness, hopelessness
• Loss of enjoyment in previously enjoyed activities or hobbies

Signs of Depressive Behavior

During adolescence, children’s minds fluctuate through many different emotions due to the constant changes they are undergoing. They may display signs of sadness or worthlessness. These signs may be temporary, but if they are reoccurring then they may be experiencing depression.

Teens and adults show signs typically show signs of sadness, worthlessness, fatigue, reluctancy to participate in activities, sleeping issues, eating issues, using drugs and/or alcohol to outlet their emotions to, and suicidal thinking

Older adults can exhibit similar signs as teens and adults. They can show signs of difficulty remembering, developing pains and aches, issues with sleeping, loss of sex drive, and suicidal thinking.

Any signs shown above can be signs of depression and you or a loved one may need to see medical help. Treatments for depression include medications, psychotherapy, or a combination. Other treatments may include brain stimulation therapies e.g. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy (TMS).

If you are an adult with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), you may be a candidate for Spravato nasal spray – taken along with an oral antidepressant.  Diamond Lake clinic is a Spravato REMS certified treatment center.
